Jewellery Shipping Approval for Loss or Damage Coverage with NZ Post

If you’re looking to ship jewellery and secure coverage for loss or damage through NZ Post, please note that jewellery is classified as a restricted item, requiring a specific approval process to ensure compliance with NZ Post's policies.

Steps to Apply for Approval

To start the approval process, please provide the following information:

  1. Sender Information: Your business name, address, and contact details.
  2. Packaging: Photos of the packaging (both internal and external), particularly if the items are fragile. This is to ensure NZ Post’s packaging safety standards are met.
  3. Daily Volume: Estimated daily volume of jewellery shipments.
  4. Confirmation: A written confirmation that you understand and accept the terms of carriage for jewellery items.

Once we receive these details, we’ll submit your request to NZ Post for review. The approval process typically takes a few days, and we’ll notify you as soon as we receive confirmation.

Important Considerations for Packaging

To ensure safe delivery, please ensure that each item is securely packaged to withstand standard shipping conditions. This includes:

  • Protection against a 1.2-meter drop: Use durable, cushioned packaging that accounts for potential drops, bumps, or placement at various angles.
  • Double packaging when needed: Items may benefit from an internal and external container, with particular attention to protecting corners.

Simply affixing labels such as "fragile" or "handle with care" is not sufficient. Acceptance of your item does not imply that the packaging meets all standards required for undamaged delivery.

Note on Approval and Coverage

Approval must be obtained before shipping any jewellery items to qualify for coverage. Only approved customers will be eligible for loss or damage coverage, and NZ Post reserves the right to change or terminate exemptions in line with regulatory changes.
