Similar to rural areas for domestic shipping, international shipments may also incur surcharges for collections or deliveries that are non metro (courier dependent).
- FedEx
- Within New Zealand, FedEx's drivers only service Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch metro areas. FedEx will still be available from other locations but they will charge a surcharge for collection and will contract that pick up to another courier (usually NZ Couriers). This may add additional time to the shipment delivery ETA.
- Outside New Zealand. FedEx will deliver to most areas but their own drivers will again only service metro areas. If the delivery area is considered outer area, a surcharge will be applied and a local courier service will be contracted to make the delivery.
- NZ Post
- There are typically no outer area surcharges for NZ Post International shipments.
